The Motown Review
In this workshop students will be introduced to the history and musical style of Motown. Text Rich will highlight the major producers and recording artists, and draw on popular Motown songs to discuss the musical conventions and song writing modes that defined the Motown sound. The group will write collective notes about themes and styles from Motown and compare them to what’s is popular on the radio today. Drawing from these notes, the workshop will culminate with a songwriting activity, recorded for students to keep and build on their own afterward!
